Ding Ruyun, a local reclusive Buddhist graffiti artist

You've probably seen a Buddha head or the Chinese character "Nian" (meaning "read") in any alleyway, but you might not know its name—Ting Ruyun, a local graffiti artist. Early in his Buddhist studies, he encountered the works of artists with Buddhist backgrounds and began leaving his mark on the streets. This time, he's collaborating with local incense brand Heung Yau to create incense sticks designed for relaxation in today's urbanites. In Sham Shui Po, one of Hong Kong's most crowded districts, he's seeking a tranquil and Zen-like ambiance amidst the bustle of the city.

A Healing Oasis in the Bustling City: DX Design Museum's Xiangqiu Pop-up Concept Store in Sham Shui Po

Operated by the Hong Kong Design Centre, DX Design Centre is a vibrant landmark in Sham Shui Po. As the champion of the Digital Economy Accelerator (DEA) 2024 programme organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre and a two-time winner of the Hong Kong Top Ten Craftsmen Award, Local incense brand Heung Yau has been invited to create a new immersive forest-inspired fragrance experience at the "Summer Wanderlust - Fashion and Lifestyle Design Pop-up Pavilion" at the DX design hub in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon's bustling heart. The experience is divided into three sections: a DIY sachet-making zone, exclusive to the Design Hub; an introductory concept zone introducing the brand and the pop-up; and a natural, forest-themed check-in zone for mind, body, and soul. Visitors can learn about Heung Yau, a brand founded in 2022, and how it uses traditional methods combined with innovative ideas to create a variety of natural and harmless incense products that promote well-being and spiritual cultivation. The brand is dedicated to promoting the important role of incense in Hong Kong's history and culture. A special highlight of the pop-up pavilion is the DIY sachet-making zone, featuring 12 incense ingredients, including angelica, cypress leaves, and patchouli, allowing visitors to freely mix and match to create their own unique sachet.

Breathe Deeply: Incense and Zen, Living in the Present Moment

At the opening event, Isabelle, founder of Incense Hill, will share the brand's story, and Ding Ruyun will share her creative philosophy. Under the theme of "Breathing Your Best: Incense and Zen, Living in the Present Moment," we'll also offer a sniffing session, allowing everyone to appreciate Ding Ruyun's inspiration while experiencing the agarwood from a collection of traditional Taiwanese incense shops. This collaboration features premium aged agarwood from Nha Trang, Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, and Huian, Hainan Island, China, along with two Buddhist designs by Ding Ruyun. This timeless creation blends fragrance and art.
